Evening of Chamber Music For Woodwinds and Harp 


Please join us for an exciting evening of Chamber Music for Woodwinds and Harp. 

The performance will take place on the glorious lawn of Ladywood Estates.

Indy Ensemble musicians will be joined by Melissa Gallant on the harp. The program includes music by Malcolm Arnold, William Still Grant, Valerie Coleman, Brandee Younger and others.


This program is made possible by the Public Art for Neighborhoods Community Connections Grant Program which is administered by the Arts Council of Indianapolis and funded by the City of Indianapolis.

Alistair Howlett was born in Sydney, Australia and received his Bachelor of Music degree from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He later completed his Masters in Performance at the Hochschule for Music and Theater Munich, Germany with Flute Professor András Adorján. He was Utility Flute with the Opera Australia Orchestra, which performs at the iconic Sydney Opera House, from 2006 to 2013.

Howlett has been Guest Principal Flute with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgart Philharmonic, Queensland and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras, tour of Japan with the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, and tour of the U.S. with the Australia Chamber Orchestra. He has also participated in summer festivals including the Pacific Music Festival in Japan and the Verbier Music Festival in Switzerland.

Since moving to the U.S., Howlett has performed as Guest Principal Flute with the Indianapolis Symphony, East Coast and ProMusica Chamber Orchestras, Buffalo Philharmonic, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Chautauqua Symphony and has performed with the Louisville Symphony and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Howlett has served as Adjunct Lecturer in Flute at the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University in 2016 and is currently Assistant Professor of Music at DePauw and Professor of Music at Anderson University.

Ivy Ringel is the recently appointed Principal Bassoon of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Prior to her time in Indianapolis, Ms. Ringel served as the Principal Bassoon of the Atlanta Opera Orchestra and the Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra. As an active freelance musician and teacher in the Atlanta area, she held a teaching position at Morehouse College, and taught masterclasses at Columbus State University (GA). Ms. Ringel performed regularly with orchestras such as the Houston Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Chattanooga Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, Louisiana Philharmonic, and the Jacksonville Symphony. Originally from Hillsborough, North Carolina, Ms. Ringel earned her Bachelor of Music degree and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with John Hunt and Charlie Bailey. She then earned her Master of Music degree at Rice University, studying with Benjamin Kamins. When she is not playing the bassoon, Ms. Ringel enjoys cooking, traveling, live music, and hiking.

Nicholas Davies is a clarinetist and composer who enjoys a diverse career as a freelance musician. He regularly performs with ensembles including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Roomful of Teeth, Santa Barbara Symphony, New World Symphony and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Antelope Valley Symphony, the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, and the USC Wind Ensemble. Nicholas recently performed Frank Ticheli’s Clarinet Concerto alongside the composer. Mr. Davies has also garnered acclaim from several competitions, taking First Place in the Pasadena Showcase Competition, and Third Place in Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. He has earned fellowships from institutions such as the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, Spoleto Festival USA and the Louis Moreau Institute. As a composer, past commissions include those from the Houston Grand Opera, Midic Winds, the Eureka Ensemble, the Webster Trio, and the Chicago Harp Quartet. Additionally, Nicholas is the artistic director and founder of the Rossini Club, a chamber music organization based in Nantucket, Massachusetts, which is hosting its eighth season this year. He holds a Bachelors in Music from Rice University, and a Masters of Music from the University of Southern California.

Leonid Sirotkin is a musician of versatile interests and accomplishments. As an orchestral player, he is a Principal Oboe of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, member of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra. A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, he served for almost a decade as principal English horn with the Kirov Opera and Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater under Maestro Valery Gergiev. In the U.S., Mr. Sirotkin has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and toured with the CSO to Japan and Europe. He has also performed with Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Dayton and Colorado Springs Philharmonic. 

As pedagogue, Professor Sirotkin leads a successful studio of oboe students at the School of Music at DePauw University and Anderson University. He also maintains a thriving private oboe studio. 

An avid chamber musician, he has appeared at numerous festivals including the Kuhmo International Chamber Music Festival, Finland; Kostamuksha Music Festival and Togliatti International Music Festival, Russia and the Lucca Music Festival in Italy. 

Leonid is an active music arranger and entrepreneur. His arrangements are performed nationwide and abroad. As an entrepreneur, he organized numerous performances and is co-founder and co-director of the Benefic Chamber Music Camp in Muncie, IN.
